100 Hour Agenda Follow-up: HR 2 Lost in Conference
HR 2, part of the Democrats 100 Hour Agenda, is not talked about much anymore. Well at least Speaker Pelosi and House Majority Leader Steny Hoyer are not patting themselves on the back over it lately. Maybe that is because it is long past 100 hours and even though they passed a bill in that time period, it is doing the 2 house shuffle right now.

The CBO estimate for the tax package to offset the wage increase to small business indicates a short term tax break, initial lower revenues to the government followed by a small increase in revenue over a long period of years. There of course is no estimate on private sector/economy effects in the estimate. The minimum wage bill has a small upside for minimum wage earners, a questionable estimate on revenue when combined with its effects on business. Short version would be if expenses are raised someone has to pay for it. That would be the middle class taxpayer and consumer.
Fortunately for most of us, the bill will be stuck in conference for some time. So much for this part of the 100 hour agenda of the 110th Congress. And what happened to the bills in the remainder of the 100 hour agenda? That will likely be ignored while Congress and the President consider their latest strategy. Congress and the President are cozying up to leaders of Hispanic Advocacy groups. You know, the ones that want the open borders, amnesty and other special interest favors.

House vote sets up conference committee on minimum wage
By passing a package (H.R. 976) of tax breaks and incentives for small businesses on Feb. 16, 2007, the House of Representatives has set the stage for negotiations to begin on forging a final agreement to raise the federal minimum wage by $2.10 per hour. The tax relief bill will be combined with a minimum wage proposal (H.R. 2) approved by the House on Jan. 10.
