Tancredo Enters Campaign
This is the type of political complication that is largely a good thing. Earlier by consensus of everyone at Blog @ MoreWhat.com we had posts presenting Mitt Romney as our top choice for President in 2008. I have gone as far as calling him the thinking man’s candidate. With one of his latest statements on keeping certain information about the Iraq war non-public, I rest my case. His campaign fund raising success indicates I’m not the only one thinking like that.
Now, what about our original first choice? As a group, we were unanimous in our approval of Tom Tancredo as the best choice for President in 2008 as if we were single issue voters. But we’re not single issue voters. It only appears that way to those who think illegal immigration is an insignificant side issue.
Since 9/11 we should be intelligent enough as a nation to understand the implications. It is evident that very bad things can happen to a sleepy nation of sheep that believe the world is all wonderful and we can now sing Kumbaya and forget things like national defense and security and put immigration in a box by itself. National defense and security is the number one issue for any country hoping to survive in the 21st century just as much as it was since this country’s beginnings. And if you do not believe that strictly managed immigration law and policy is a part of the number one issue of national defense and security you are the prime target of terrorists and others in the world who would do the United States harm for their own gain.
That said, we are awaiting the time when Tom Tancredo regains his position as our first choice for President in 2008. An official announcement of his entering the campaign is a good start. The only reason he did not get the nod earlier was the lack of evidence he would run for President, a non-existent campaign. This does not reduce our favorable assessment of Mitt Romney. It gives us the best of both worlds. Not one, but two candidates we can fully support for President and that is a reassuring sense of relief this early in a unique campaign for an election scenario absent since 1928. No incumbent President or Vice-President will be seeking the office of President.
I have not pondered the other possibilities long enough to have an informed opinion as to what this means to the campaign for 2008 overall. But as an initial impression it is easy to conclude that there are enough candidates on the GOP side to provide a complete ticket for 2008. And the combinations available, at least in theory, should be adequate to interest not only registered Republicans but all or most of those pesky independents like us. The three candidates polling the highest on the Democratic side would not be able to make that claim. All three there have troubling questions that prevent such an assessment. And no, we’re not including Al Gore as one of the three for he is not officially in the race and the man who believed he invented the internet and takes a sky if falling approach to the topic of global warming is not a threat. A yes man as Vice-President, losing one Presidential election and going off the deep end does not bode well for potential candidates. The elite liberal protest against everyone else’s lifestyle but his own, speaks volumes on his credibility and integrity or lack of same.

Tancredo joins 2008 race, focus on immigration
Monday, April 2, 2007
DES MOINES (Reuters) - Republican Rep. Tom Tancredo of Colorado formally announced his candidacy for the U.S. 2008 presidential race on Monday, saying he would make fighting illegal immigration the focus of his campaign.
The 61-year-old lawmaker, who is in his fifth term, made the announcement on a talk radio show. He had announced the formation of an exploratory committee in January.
Tancredo said he chose to go on WHO Radio in Iowa to make the announcement because “I have probably done about 1,800 or more talk radio shows .. on the issue of illegal immigration. It’s given me a megaphone that I never would have had. It’s allows you to talk directly to the American people.”
Iowa holds the first test of voter sentiment on the presidential field with its caucuses in January, 2008.

That’s a good thing since nobody’s fully locked up the crazy douchebag spot in the GOP yet. Tancredo should fit in nicely.
But, hey, if he doesn’t work out, you can always give Buchanan another try! That should be fun.

Brad,
You are certainly entitled to your opinion. But the manner in which you share it would indicate your style. May we suggest a site that will appreciate your style. Pandagon.net or perhaps Shakespeare’s Sister. You know, Marcotte and McEwan sites.
You also might consider renaming your site. And maybe offer an explanation why you would view Clinton, Obama or Edwards as your choice. And don’t forget to leave your doors unlocked.
