Proof that immigration enforcement works

illegals and Mexican flags
What common sense could provide to anyone looking for a solution to illegal immigration has been demonstrated in Texas already. With the border fence an unpopular alternative in some circles, implementing the logical solution of enforcing existing immigration law is proving its worth. This would not come as a major surprise to the practical among us.

The notion held by those calling for enforcement of existing immigration law and the rejection of amnesty for illegals, a sentiment which defeated amnesty in Congress last summer, holds that strict enforcement would effectively reduce or eliminate illegal immigration especially when the news got out.

Some referred to ICE sweeps during this year as an empty gesture designed to calm angry opposition to illegal immigration and amnesty. It would be fair to say that the reported estimates of illegal entry rates versus the outcomes of ICE initiatives would not solve the problem by itself. So a program called Operation Streamline has been implemented to, go figure, enforce existing immigration law and it is working.

enforcing the rule of law

In places where immigration law is enforced, reports indicate illegal crossings have decreased by 2/3. That is the result in less than two years but there is a fear that the system will be overloaded. The answer in some areas was to use available federal or private detention capacity to handle the overflow. While rural areas may have an easier time at this than densely populated urban areas, the effectiveness of enforcement indicates the problem would be short term.

The expected outcome that illegal crossings would move from areas of strict enforcement to those with relaxed policies is further evidence of the need to implement enforcement nationwide to complete the solution.

Excerpts below from a report of the results features the state of Texas and several Border Patrol sectors where enforcement has shown it works and is the viable and effective solution a common sense approach dictates. This information further indicts those supporting illegal immigration and amnesty for the sham it is. Anyone supporting the violation of the rule of law is merely attempting to make a case for their own personal agenda. Which typically would involve greed or other selfish motives that have nothing to do with the altruistic claims often presented.

The report also includes the suggestion that Operation Streamline has the support of many Congressmen. That would be good and should assist in taking the program nationwide. The problem can then be solved and we can move on to other important issues of the day.

As for some details of Operation Streamline, illegals are charged with a misdemeanor, fingerprinted and put on a bus back to Mexico. Second time offenders are charged with a felony and jailed. The illegal crossing rates plummet where the law is enforced. If continued to be enforced and implemented nationwide, the problem will be solved and the overloads and costs will disappear along with the illegals. Law enforcement can then devote more time to other pressing matters.

McALLEN — The Rio Grande Valley could be the next place to implement a zero-tolerance policy credited with cutting illegal immigration rates by almost 70 percent in other parts of the state.

But critics of the program fear the prosecution of every undocumented migrant caught crossing the border would overwhelm federal prosecutors and crowd local detention centers.

But the Border Patrol has consulted with federal prosecutors, U.S. Immigration and Customs Enforcement, the U.S. Marshals and public defenders to clear bottlenecks and maintain the heavy case load.

“From what I’ve been told in Laredo, there’s already been a decrease in the people coming over,” he said. “It’s already working.”

This is a very good article which voters should read. … I do promote truth, whether or not it hurts. After all, which do you value more? Truth? Politics? With Romney, you have to wonder about both, IMHO. If you truly do stand with Romney, read Greg…..

First, I don’t know what a Romney trackback has to do with immigration. Second, Greg’s piece is contradicted even by MA papers like the Boston Globe and Herald. Greg omits the shared responsibility of others in gov’t while Romney was Governor of MA. For example, the gay marriage issue and their Supreme Court. Referring to Romney supporters as Romniacs or Kool Aid drinkers is simple inflammatory political rhetoric and of no consequence.

It takes more than one or two reads on a topic to have any sense of where the truth is and even more serious research would probably be required. I’ll just say that Greg’s view is not convincing.
