Helping the Terrorists
As if it is not bad enough that we eat ourselves into oblivion. Now we are squandering precious resources on fixing problems we are too stupid to prevent in the first place. Mike Thomas in the article below saves me the pain and suffering of composing a tongue lashing for all the people that don’t know when to stop eating. I could afford to lose some weight. I have lost some weight. I was about 15% overweight and am currently about 10% overweight and on my way down. For about ten years I lifted weights and ran. Lots of running and plenty of weight lifting and a low fat carb heavy diet. Hey, it worked for me. At eighteen I was an active 180 pounds. At 30 I freaked out when I broke 200. I ran the weight off and later was introduced to weight training. Between the two I added about 30 pounds of muscle mass and leveled off at a comfortable 205. Years later after a neck injury my working out suffered and the stress of a meat grinder job allowed me to reach my all-time high of 257. I am back to correcting the problem and am about 20 pounds off of 205. I still smoke a pack a day. Don’t go to the doctor unless somethin’ broke. And haven’t been to a dentist in 40 years. Still have all my teeth and all things considered feel pretty good. If I would happen to get lung cancer I won’t do a thing about it.
The point is healthcare is out of control. Our behavior is out of control. We are too soft. We are not disciplined. If our choices in life cause serious problems we should not expect someone else to pay for it. The cost of healthcare as reported below is choking our economy. Hell, it started a whole new economy of fixing our mistakes. And now in our great wisdom, we have the healthcare system pay for our bad choices and wonder what’s wrong. If you are a man who needs a drug like Viagra, instead of having insurance or medicare pay for it maybe you should understand that is nature’s way of telling you to find a hobby. If your weight is off the charts, either fix it yourself or let it kill you. That is nature’s way of cleaning up the gene pool. And on top of all this, the FDA approved a drug for your overweight dog. The terrorists don’t need to plan to kill us. If they simply have patience we will do it for them.

So many people are fat that the umbrella of political correctness now covers obesity. It has been classified as a disease, implying the affected are victims of something beyond their control. We hear time and time again from the afflicted that diet and exercise do not work. The only diet-and-exercise failure is when people fail to diet and exercise.

FDA Approves the First Drug for Obese Dogs
The Food and Drug Administration (FDA) today is announcing the approval of Slentrol (dirlotapide), a prescription drug for the management of obesity in dogs. Slentrol reduces appetite and fat absorption to produce weight loss. A veterinarian will determine whether the dog should be treated, based on the dog’s weight and general health.
