Another Shamnesty Bill in Congress

immigration protest in US promoting the Mexican flag April 7, 2006
Shamnesty for illegal immigrants is rearing its ugly head again. A new bill introduced by Rep Luis V. Gutierrez (D-IL) brings to mind two items immediately. Gutierrez is from Illinois and the Chicago political machine as is President Obama. And the word ‘caucus’ suggests, go figure, special interest. Wordnet defines ‘caucus’ as follows:

meet to select a candidate or promote a policy
a closed political meeting

Gutierrez describes his bill in the quote below.

My bill will promote fair immigration proceedings, humane treatment of immigration detainees, and policies that respect the tenet of community policing. No more raids in our community, no more separation of our families. Now, none of this works without a strong commitment to America’s labor force. None of it works without a strong commitment. So one of the tenets of our bill will be comprehensive immigration reform, has to mean—has to mean—to protecting all workers.

A press release from Gutierrez is presented below. If not simply liberals the co-sponsors of his bill belong to one caucus (special interest) or another or are Hispanic.(one special interest as regards shamnesty). What ever happened to being American and not allowing one’s self to pursue agendas contrary to the rule of law and founding principles? To honor one’s responsibility as a citizen of the United States includes adhering to the rule of law. That also includes requiring those here illegally to, at the very least, return to their country of origin and get in line for legal entry to this country. Any argument to the contrary does not meet the smell test. Allowing illegal immigrants to thwart the rule of law as their first action as a prospective immigrant defies reason as well as indicates a willingness to do as one pleases rather than demonstrate characteristics of good citizenship. To be blunt, Mr Gutierrez’ legislative proposal is a crock. As is the sentiment of those who support it.

Looks like the shamnesty monster has returned as everyone expected. Time to defend this nation again from those who would destroy it by ignoring its founding.

“We have waited patiently for a workable solution to our immigration crisis to be taken up by this Congress and our President,” said Rep. Gutierrez. “The time for waiting is over. This bill will be presented before Congress recesses for the holidays so that there is no excuse for inaction in the New Year. It is the product of months of collaboration with civil rights advocates, labor organizations, and members of Congress. It is an answer to too many years of pain —mothers separated from their children, workers exploited and undermined security at the border— all caused at the hands of a broken immigration system. This bill says ‘enough,’ and presents a solution to our broken system that we as a nation of immigrants can be proud of.”

Press should confirm their attendance with Rebecca Dreilinger at 202-225-8203 or via email at Rebecca.Dreilinger@mail.house.gov.

Amazing how so many Illinois POLS have links to irregularities in real estate. Mr Gutierrez is no exception.

In October 2008, Gutiérrez became subject to federal scrutiny as a result of a $200,000 loan he received from a campaign contributor on whose behalf he personally lobbied the mayor of Chicago to back a real estate development.

Plan for Guard Troops on Border Stalls Over Money
Wednesday, August 12, 2009 10:40 PM

WASHINGTON — A government plan to use National Guard troops to help stem Mexican drug violence along the southern border is stymied by disagreements over who will pay for the soldiers and how they would be used.

Ordered by President Barack Obama in June to help secure the border with Mexico, the Pentagon and the Homeland Security Department drafted a $225 million plan to deploy temporarily 1,500 Guard troops to supplement Border Patrol agents.

The two agencies are wrangling over how to structure the deployment, but the primary sticking point is the money, according to senior administration officials who spoke on condition of anonymity to discuss internal deliberations.

In days where economics and government spending feature the term ‘trillions’ to quantify dollars in the equation the Obamanation has the audacity to propose immigration reform as a major agenda item. If $225 million is a sticking point for a National Guard presence on the southern US border to protect against a criminal element in the drug trade how can one believe the liberal agenda on national defense and border security is anything more than a call for OPEN BORDERS on a permanent basis. Or at least until our nation collapses under the pressure of providing economic support for foreign nationals that their home country refuses to address?

immigration protest in the US 04/07/2006
Typically millions of people visit TJ every year. But this is turning out to be not every year. Economics and financial turmoil have wreaked havoc on the entire planet. Most would say this is something of a natural or cyclical event. But that probably doesn’t mean much to small business owners in Mexico or anywhere else. This blog expresses firm support for immigration enforcement and disdain for those who violate the orderly process of relocating from one country to another, not just in the US.

With that in mind a story is in the news describing the hard times felt by those who operate businesses in Tijuana, Mexico.and it is no less dramatic than other stories of this kind. It is important to address those who believe legal immigration advocates are xenophobic or have some other malady or dysfunctional attribute in order to set the record straight. While there may be xenophobes, racists or hate mongers walking the planet those who genuinely understand the critical importance of strong immigration enforcement in no way lack sympathy for the citizens of Mexico who especially now are dealing with an inordinate amount of difficulty.

In Tijuana’s poorest neighborhoods, known as colonias, people like Socorro Villavicencio struggle to earn a living. She is an indigenous Mixteca Indian from Southern Mexico, 39 years old, with seven children. She sells beaded necklaces and bracelets to tourists, buying her materials with loans from the Christian charity World Vision.

Many people in Mexico operate on a scale and set of circumstances most of us can only imagine. Annual incomes, standard of living, political corruption and an escalation in the drug wars present a level of risk to the average Mexican few have as a challenge in the United States.

“How shall I say it? There are a lot of thieves,” said Socorro Villavicencio. “That’s why the police in the U.S., I see on the news, that they don’t let the Americans cross the border because they say Mexico is dangerous.”

Well, Socorro, it IS dangerous. The danger may be higher these days but it has always been a problem. Personal experience of this blog author can attest to that fact. And again, the other fact is no matter the situation in Mexico it in no way obligates Americans to be labeled xenophobes or worse for their interest in border security and immigration enforcement. It would be nice if people would concentrate their focus on correcting Mexico’s problems rather than allowing those problems to be dumped on American soil for the answer.

You can read the rest of the story of course by following the links provided.

Shamnesty to Rear Its Ugly Head Later This Year

Posted in Terrorism, wordpress, McCain, Immigration, Tancredo, Kennedy, Kyl, Specter, United States, Law, Justice, obama, Pelosi, Reid, Border Control, Legislation, Mitch McConnell, lugar, Blogs4Borders, boehner on May 30th, 2009 by Stanford Matthews

As early as June 8, 2009 a formal restart of the shamnesty movement will occur in the Obama White House. At least one report confirms what most of us already knew. Shamnesty will once again be the top issue in Washington later in 2009. But you had better get your opposition strategy activated long before then as it may only be a matter of 60 liberal votes along with any mindless RINOs that decides the issue if pressure is not applied starting now. 2010 is not far off and we all know politicians like only one thing better than getting elected. That is getting re-elected. And a vote for shamnesty is just one more reason to throw the bums out.

Immigration reform could emerge again in the fall
By Steve Stoddard and J. Taylor Rushing
Posted: 05/25/09 09:31 AM [ET]

Senate Democrats may be close to 60 votes on a measure that would represent the first step towards immigration reform under President Obama.

The Development, Relief and Education for Alien Minors (DREAM) Act is a concept dear to Senate Majority Whip Dick Durbin’s (D-Ill.) heart, and while health care reform may get this summer’s headlines in Washington, the DREAM Act may be a sleeper.

illegal immigrationThe Dream Act has been around for a while and like the shamnesty defeat in the summer of 2007 it has been shot down once. Together with yes votes on bailouts any member of Congress voting for shamnesty risks defeat in 2010 unless they are secure in a liberal saturated district willing to open all borders and ignore the rule of law.

All the Dream Act does is give illegals one more reason to violate the law and enter this country without lawfully engaging the process. Rather than offer an unnecessary carrot to break the law, Congress should encourage and assist the executive branch or law enforcement with the stick they need to eliminate illegal immigration. This is not a call to abolish immigration but illegal immigration. There is a big difference. But liberals for open borders and unregulated immigration prefer to label those opposed to illegal immigration as xenophobic. Yes, there is no shortage of liberal labels to muddy the water on issues.

So far it is no surprise that Arlen Specter, RINO extraordinaire and now GOP defector, will support whatever the Democrats propose. Other notable RINO looking Senators are Lugar, Lott and Wicker.

It will be tougher this time than the last to defeat shamnesty. But that is not reason for concern but increased effort and attitude.

Wanted: Public Opposition to HR 1024 and S 424

Posted in Terrorism, wordpress, Immigration, Tancredo, liberal, United States, Law, Justice, Border Control, Legislation, Blogs4Borders on May 28th, 2009 by Stanford Matthews

Maggie’s Notebook
Conservative Thoughts

If there is anyone out there who believes the Democratic party is concerned about the rule of law, secure borders or illegal immigration the introduction of HR 1024 in the US House of Representatives and S 424 in the US Senate and the hearing scheduled below demonstrates what is important to them. The top priority for Democrats, aka liberals, this year on the issue of immigration is adding the terms or phrase ‘permanent partner(s)’ to amend the Immigration and Nationality Act.

The Senate hearing is being held by the Committee on the Judiciary and it just so happens the Chairman is Senator Patrick Leahy who is also the sponsor of the Senate bill S. 424. There are 17 co-sponsors of the bill and with the exception of Sanders (officially an independent), also from Vermont like Leahy, the remainder are all Democrats.

The House bill, HR 1024 is sponsored by Democratic party Congressman Jerrold Nadler of the NY 8th and co-sponsored by 102 Democrats.

As stated earlier the liberal priorities on secure borders, illegal immigration, the rule of law and national security overall are demonstrated by their published agenda. They have learned nothing from past history and if allowed to continue without at least strong objection from the public will be free to further damage national security and defense as well as adding to the crippling economic effects of unrestrained illegal immigration.

This post is simply a call to all citizens to express your opinion to your elected representatives in the strongest terms. Pursuing such policy and legislation for political purposes while ignoring the very real risks to this nation is at best foolish and at worst, criminal. As much as conservative principles fall on deaf liberal ears the awakening to the sensible action it advocates may come too late without sufficient public outrage. The opposition party known as the GOP has weakened their position to a point where public pressure is all that stands between a strong United States and further weakened world power awash with liberal dreams. Take a stand, put pressure on those in Washington to do the right thing. Eliminate these bills or at least put them on the back burner until the borders are secure, illegal immigration is eliminated and national security and defense are again second to none.

Would Barry Remove Illegal Aliens?

illegal immigration
Ah, the momentary optimism caused by an apparent report of good news followed by the sensible concern it may all be a sham. The topic of shamnesty, illegal immigration, illegal aliens and the preposterous notion that somehow they are the victims and American citizens the perps has long fueled the disdain or regularly expressed outrage rejected by liberals.

That Barack Obama would be initiating one common sense approach to deal with illegals who in addition to being in violation of immigration law are also criminals is met with skepticism on this blog as well as a post at Hot Air.

Crackdown on criminal illegal aliens launched by … Barack Obama?

posted at 10:08 am on May 19, 2009 by Allahpundit

So alarmingly sensible does this sound that I’m panicked at what the catch might be.

illegals promoting shamnesty

There is a ‘pilot program’ that would be funded by $200 million to match illegals with their criminal record fingerprints and remove them from the US after serving their sentence. Yes, you would think that should be the current and historic outcome but it has not been. And the fact that President Obama would initiate or support such a sensible approach is mind boggling given the track record of libs on immigration not to mention nearly everything else.

Maybe after this fantasy becomes reality he would consider removing the other illegals. Ya, right.

Pew Studies Illegal Immigration Like It’s Something New

Posted in Public Affairs, Terrorism, wordpress, Politics, Immigration, Tancredo, United States, Law, Justice, Border Control, Legislation, Mexico, Blogs4Borders on April 17th, 2009 by Stanford Matthews

growth of illegal immigration
Where to start? How about, first, did anyone really need a ‘formal’ study to be aware that illegal immigrants are having more children in the US? Second, does it seem odd that a formal study would be credited to ‘a US study’ by the Pew ‘Hispanic’ Center? It seems any time those with an unfavorable view of illegal immigration express their opinion it is immediately met with resentment for citing Mexico or South America or anything referred to as ‘Hispanic.’ Yet it appears that Pew Research has a wing called the Pew Hispanic Center claimed to be non-partisan which apparently has the sole purpose to ‘track’ the Latino population in the US.

So where is the outrage over this? There are a number of stories or reports from various sources listed in news search engines dealing with related items and citing the study but no outright vitriol was observed over the study or the source. Imagine that. Maybe its too early. Besides, those who favor shamnesty and open borders may not want to make waves before the Messiah takes up so-called ‘reforms’ for immigration. The US has never needed legitimate reforms but simply enforcing existing law. Allowing E-verify to expire is a good example of the open borders crowd opposing practical remedies for illegal immigration.

But on to the report below on this study. Look at the percentages Pew estimates and then claim Mexico, South America, Hispanic, Latino, whatever, are not primary contributors to the problem of illegal immigration. And if the number of children born to poverty by this epidemic is even close to accurate it may explain the soaring cost of taxpayer funded social programs to address the situation. Both are features of reasonable complaints against illegal immigration without any mention of the fact that ignoring the rule of law is simply wrong and a dangerous precedent regarding national security and economic turmoil.

Study: Illegal Immigrants Having More Children in US

14 April 2009

A U.S. study says illegal immigrants are having a growing number of children in the United States and are almost twice as likely as average to raise them in poverty.

The study released Tuesday by the Pew Hispanic Center says there are 11.9 million illegal immigrants living in the United States, about 76 percent of them Hispanic.

The survey found that a growing number of children of unauthorized immigrant parents -73 percent - were born in the United States and are U.S. citizens.

The study found one-third of children born to unauthorized immigrants live in poverty, nearly double the poverty rate for children of U.S.-born parents (18 percent).

The study found that illegal immigrants are now more broadly spread around the country, settling in states where relatively few had lived two decades ago, such as Georgia, North Carolina and other southeastern states.

The survey says that while the number of illegal immigrants surged from 1990 to 2006, it has since stabilized.

The research found that of illegal immigrants living in the United States, 59 percent are from Mexico, 11 percent from Central America, and seven percent from South America. It says 11 percent of undocumented residents are from Asia, four percent from the Caribbean and less than two percent from the Middle East.

The Pew Hispanic Center is a non-partisan research organization that tracks the Latino population in the United States and its impact on the country.

Some information for this report was provided by AP and Reuters.

Just poke around, you’ll find it.

NOTE: It may be worthwhile to comply with the unofficial standard of submitting your blog’s best work for open trackbacks whether here or at multiple sites. The practice may have been inspired by a desire for increased quality versus quantity as well as providing greater impact from the power of the blogosphere.
