National Security: Immigration and Border Control

Posted in Public Affairs, Terrorism, war, wordpress, Politics, Immigration, Tancredo, America, Law, Justice, Opinion, Border Control, Legislation, Blogs4Borders, 9/11 on February 15th, 2010 by Stanford Matthews

Are we serious this time? Among the other items within the liberal agenda spearheaded by President Barack Obama as well as Senate Majority Leader Harry Reid, Speaker of the House Nancy Pelosi and others, amnesty for illegal immigrants, no deportation for those here illegally and lax national security and border control feature prominently. But a few members of Congress, 22 to be exact, have put forth a resolution reminding everyone the rule of law must prevail to secure America’s borders and protect the nation.

111th CONGRESS
2d Session
H. RES. 1026
Expressing the sense of the House of Representatives that the continued peace, prosperity, liberty, and national security of the United States and its people depend upon the rule of law and credible and effective immigration enforcement policies which both welcome lawful immigrants and non-immigrants and also prevent the unlawful entry or unlawful continuing presence of foreign persons.
IN THE HOUSE OF REPRESENTATIVES

January 21, 2010

Mr. CHAFFETZ (for himself, Mr. HUNTER, Mr. KRATOVIL, Mr. NYE, Mr. FLEMING, Mrs. LUMMIS, Mr. COFFMAN of Colorado, Mr. MCCLINTOCK, Mr. POSEY, Mr. ROE of Tennessee, Mr. HARPER, Ms. JENKINS, Mr. BARROW, Mr. BRIGHT, Mr. LUETKEMEYER, Mr. OLSON, Mr. TAYLOR, Mr. PATRICK J. MURPHY of Pennsylvania, Mr. MCINTYRE, Mr. KAGEN, Mr. SHULER, and Mr. CHILDERS) submitted the following resolution; which was referred to the Committee on the Judiciary, and in addition to the Committees on Education and Labor and Homeland Security, for a period to be subsequently determined by the Speaker, in each case for consideration of such provisions as fall within the jurisdiction of the committee concerned

RESOLUTION
Expressing the sense of the House of Representatives that the continued peace, prosperity, liberty, and national security of the United States and its people depend upon the rule of law and credible and effective immigration enforcement policies which both welcome lawful immigrants and non-immigrants and also prevent the unlawful entry or unlawful continuing presence of foreign persons.Whereas the United States, as a nation of immigrants, recognizes and celebrates the economic and cultural contributions of generations of lawful immigrants;

Whereas the United States must remain a place where lawful immigrants can come to enjoy the promises of religious, political, and economic freedom; and

Whereas the continued peace, prosperity, liberty, and national security of the United States and its people depend upon the rule of law and credible and effective immigration enforcement policies which both welcome lawful immigrants and non-immigrants and also prevent the unlawful entry or unlawful continuing presence of foreign persons: Now, therefore, be it

Resolved, That it is the sense of the House of Representatives that–
      (1) the use of a basic pilot program described in section 403(a) of the Illegal Immigration Reform and Immigrant Responsibility Act of 1996 (8 U.S.C. 1324a note; commonly known as the E-verify program) by employers of workers within the United States should be mandatory, and that enforcement policies should hold both employers and employees responsible whenever an individual’s employment violates United States immigration law;
      (2) installing and sustaining the necessary border infrastructure and manpower to effectively secure and control United States borders to prevent the unauthorized passage of persons or contraband is a critical responsibility of the Federal Government; and
      (3) any immigration reform proposal adopted by Congress should not legalize, grant amnesty for, or confer any other legal status condoning the otherwise unlawful entry or presence in the United States of any individual.

It is not everything we need but it IS a good start. Problems remain with those supporting amnesty for illegal immigrants like Mayor Bloomberg.

NY Mayor Bloomberg to promote immigration reform

On the hot-button issue of immigration, he favors more liberal laws on allowing immigrants into the country and legalizing those who lack documentation. That will draw opposition from advocates of tightening the border and deportation of illegal aliens.

“We’re committing what I call national suicide,” Bloomberg said on the NBC’s “Meet the Press” last Sunday. “Somehow or other, after 9/11 we went from reaching out and trying to get the best and the brightest to come here, to trying to keep them out.”

“In fact, we do the stupidest thing, we give them educations and then don’t give them green cards.”

What planet is Bloomberg living on? Sure, foreign nationals are educated in the US. But that is but one aspect of the problem. We’re talking about illegal immigration. Is Bloomberg suggesting students from foreign countries are here illegally? Probably not.

And his suggestion that educating the best and the brightest is a direct insult to American citizens who are pursuing their education here or already received it. Yet in addition he wants to loosen the almost non-existent immigration law and enforcement further.

This is the mindset that must be resisted. What Bloomberg suggests IS NOT reform. He merely wants to eliminate immigration law and completely open the borders. You don’t fix what is wrong with your country by importing replacements for your own citizens or exporting their jobs to another country. That has been Mexico’s answer to their country’s problems. Export it to the US. Then they benefit by the money sent by illegals back to Mexico.

The point is the US needs to improve education and the performance of students and teachers without abusing immigration law. And Mexico and other countries need to fix their own country’s problems without burdening the US. Stop sending American jobs overseas and importing cheaper labor here. And let other countries fix their own problems without affecting the US.

Another Shamnesty Bill in Congress

Posted in Public Affairs, Terrorism, wordpress, Politics, Immigration, Tancredo, Law, Justice, Border Control, Legislation, Blogs4Borders on December 16th, 2009 by Stanford Matthews

immigration protest in US promoting the Mexican flag April 7, 2006
Shamnesty for illegal immigrants is rearing its ugly head again. A new bill introduced by Rep Luis V. Gutierrez (D-IL) brings to mind two items immediately. Gutierrez is from Illinois and the Chicago political machine as is President Obama. And the word ‘caucus’ suggests, go figure, special interest. Wordnet defines ‘caucus’ as follows:

meet to select a candidate or promote a policy
a closed political meeting

Gutierrez describes his bill in the quote below.

My bill will promote fair immigration proceedings, humane treatment of immigration detainees, and policies that respect the tenet of community policing. No more raids in our community, no more separation of our families. Now, none of this works without a strong commitment to America’s labor force. None of it works without a strong commitment. So one of the tenets of our bill will be comprehensive immigration reform, has to mean—has to mean—to protecting all workers.

A press release from Gutierrez is presented below. If not simply liberals the co-sponsors of his bill belong to one caucus (special interest) or another or are Hispanic.(one special interest as regards shamnesty). What ever happened to being American and not allowing one’s self to pursue agendas contrary to the rule of law and founding principles? To honor one’s responsibility as a citizen of the United States includes adhering to the rule of law. That also includes requiring those here illegally to, at the very least, return to their country of origin and get in line for legal entry to this country. Any argument to the contrary does not meet the smell test. Allowing illegal immigrants to thwart the rule of law as their first action as a prospective immigrant defies reason as well as indicates a willingness to do as one pleases rather than demonstrate characteristics of good citizenship. To be blunt, Mr Gutierrez’ legislative proposal is a crock. As is the sentiment of those who support it.

Looks like the shamnesty monster has returned as everyone expected. Time to defend this nation again from those who would destroy it by ignoring its founding.

“We have waited patiently for a workable solution to our immigration crisis to be taken up by this Congress and our President,” said Rep. Gutierrez. “The time for waiting is over. This bill will be presented before Congress recesses for the holidays so that there is no excuse for inaction in the New Year. It is the product of months of collaboration with civil rights advocates, labor organizations, and members of Congress. It is an answer to too many years of pain —mothers separated from their children, workers exploited and undermined security at the border— all caused at the hands of a broken immigration system. This bill says ‘enough,’ and presents a solution to our broken system that we as a nation of immigrants can be proud of.”

Press should confirm their attendance with Rebecca Dreilinger at 202-225-8203 or via email at Rebecca.Dreilinger@mail.house.gov.

Amazing how so many Illinois POLS have links to irregularities in real estate. Mr Gutierrez is no exception.

In October 2008, Gutiérrez became subject to federal scrutiny as a result of a $200,000 loan he received from a campaign contributor on whose behalf he personally lobbied the mayor of Chicago to back a real estate development.

It surely has nothing to do with an email sent from this blogger to Michelle Malkin but she gets my thanks anyhow.  A while back I requested that she use her awesome blogging power to draw attention to the never ending threat of shamnesty.  This week it happened.

Shamnesty to Rear Its Ugly Head Later This Year

As early as June 8, 2009 a formal restart of the shamnesty movement will occur in the Obama White House. At least one report confirms what most of us already knew. Shamnesty will once again be the top issue in Washington later in 2009. But you had better get your opposition strategy activated long before then as it may only be a matter of 60 liberal votes along with any mindless RINOs that decides the issue if pressure is not applied starting now. 2010 is not far off and we all know politicians like only one thing better than getting elected. That is getting re-elected. And a vote for shamnesty is just one more reason to throw the bums out.

Immigration reform could emerge again in the fall
By Steve Stoddard and J. Taylor Rushing

Senate Democrats may be close to 60 votes on a measure that would represent the first step towards immigration reform under President Obama.

The Development, Relief and Education for Alien Minors (DREAM) Act is a concept dear to Senate Majority Whip Dick Durbin’s (D-Ill.) heart, and while health care reform may get this summer’s headlines in Washington, the DREAM Act may be a sleeper.

illegal immigrationThe Dream Act has been around for a while and like the shamnesty defeat in the summer of 2007 it has been shot down once. Together with yes votes on bailouts any member of Congress voting for shamnesty risks defeat in 2010 unless they are secure in a liberal saturated district willing to open all borders and ignore the rule of law.

All the Dream Act does is give illegals one more reason to violate the law and enter this country without lawfully engaging the process. Rather than offer an unnecessary carrot to break the law, Congress should encourage and assist the executive branch or law enforcement with the stick they need to eliminate illegal immigration. This is not a call to abolish immigration but illegal immigration. There is a big difference. But liberals for open borders and unregulated immigration prefer to label those opposed to illegal immigration as xenophobic. Yes, there is no shortage of liberal labels to muddy the water on issues.

So far it is no surprise that Arlen Specter, RINO extraordinaire and now GOP defector, will support whatever the Democrats propose. Other notable RINO looking Senators are Lugar, Lott and Wicker.

It will be tougher this time than the last to defeat shamnesty. But that is not reason for concern but increased effort and attitude.

Wanted: Public Opposition to HR 1024 and S 424

Posted in Terrorism, wordpress, Immigration, Tancredo, liberal, United States, Law, Justice, Border Control, Legislation, Blogs4Borders on May 28th, 2009 by Stanford Matthews

crossposted to:
Maggie’s Notebook
Conservative Thoughts

If there is anyone out there who believes the Democratic party is concerned about the rule of law, secure borders or illegal immigration the introduction of HR 1024 in the US House of Representatives and S 424 in the US Senate and the hearing scheduled below demonstrates what is important to them. The top priority for Democrats, aka liberals, this year on the issue of immigration is adding the terms or phrase ‘permanent partner(s)’ to amend the Immigration and Nationality Act.

The Senate hearing is being held by the Committee on the Judiciary and it just so happens the Chairman is Senator Patrick Leahy who is also the sponsor of the Senate bill S. 424. There are 17 co-sponsors of the bill and with the exception of Sanders (officially an independent), also from Vermont like Leahy, the remainder are all Democrats.

The House bill, HR 1024 is sponsored by Democratic party Congressman Jerrold Nadler of the NY 8th and co-sponsored by 102 Democrats.

As stated earlier the liberal priorities on secure borders, illegal immigration, the rule of law and national security overall are demonstrated by their published agenda. They have learned nothing from past history and if allowed to continue without at least strong objection from the public will be free to further damage national security and defense as well as adding to the crippling economic effects of unrestrained illegal immigration.

This post is simply a call to all citizens to express your opinion to your elected representatives in the strongest terms. Pursuing such policy and legislation for political purposes while ignoring the very real risks to this nation is at best foolish and at worst, criminal. As much as conservative principles fall on deaf liberal ears the awakening to the sensible action it advocates may come too late without sufficient public outrage. The opposition party known as the GOP has weakened their position to a point where public pressure is all that stands between a strong United States and further weakened world power awash with liberal dreams. Take a stand, put pressure on those in Washington to do the right thing. Eliminate these bills or at least put them on the back burner until the borders are secure, illegal immigration is eliminated and national security and defense are again second to none.

Pew Studies Illegal Immigration Like It’s Something New

Posted in Public Affairs, Terrorism, wordpress, Politics, Immigration, Tancredo, United States, Law, Justice, Border Control, Legislation, Mexico, Blogs4Borders on April 17th, 2009 by Stanford Matthews

growth of illegal immigration
Where to start? How about, first, did anyone really need a ‘formal’ study to be aware that illegal immigrants are having more children in the US? Second, does it seem odd that a formal study would be credited to ‘a US study’ by the Pew ‘Hispanic’ Center? It seems any time those with an unfavorable view of illegal immigration express their opinion it is immediately met with resentment for citing Mexico or South America or anything referred to as ‘Hispanic.’ Yet it appears that Pew Research has a wing called the Pew Hispanic Center claimed to be non-partisan which apparently has the sole purpose to ‘track’ the Latino population in the US.

So where is the outrage over this? There are a number of stories or reports from various sources listed in news search engines dealing with related items and citing the study but no outright vitriol was observed over the study or the source. Imagine that. Maybe its too early. Besides, those who favor shamnesty and open borders may not want to make waves before the Messiah takes up so-called ‘reforms’ for immigration. The US has never needed legitimate reforms but simply enforcing existing law. Allowing E-verify to expire is a good example of the open borders crowd opposing practical remedies for illegal immigration.

But on to the report below on this study. Look at the percentages Pew estimates and then claim Mexico, South America, Hispanic, Latino, whatever, are not primary contributors to the problem of illegal immigration. And if the number of children born to poverty by this epidemic is even close to accurate it may explain the soaring cost of taxpayer funded social programs to address the situation. Both are features of reasonable complaints against illegal immigration without any mention of the fact that ignoring the rule of law is simply wrong and a dangerous precedent regarding national security and economic turmoil.

Study: Illegal Immigrants Having More Children in US

14 April 2009

A U.S. study says illegal immigrants are having a growing number of children in the United States and are almost twice as likely as average to raise them in poverty.

The study released Tuesday by the Pew Hispanic Center says there are 11.9 million illegal immigrants living in the United States, about 76 percent of them Hispanic.

The survey found that a growing number of children of unauthorized immigrant parents -73 percent - were born in the United States and are U.S. citizens.

The study found one-third of children born to unauthorized immigrants live in poverty, nearly double the poverty rate for children of U.S.-born parents (18 percent).

The study found that illegal immigrants are now more broadly spread around the country, settling in states where relatively few had lived two decades ago, such as Georgia, North Carolina and other southeastern states.

The survey says that while the number of illegal immigrants surged from 1990 to 2006, it has since stabilized.

The research found that of illegal immigrants living in the United States, 59 percent are from Mexico, 11 percent from Central America, and seven percent from South America. It says 11 percent of undocumented residents are from Asia, four percent from the Caribbean and less than two percent from the Middle East.

The Pew Hispanic Center is a non-partisan research organization that tracks the Latino population in the United States and its impact on the country.

Some information for this report was provided by AP and Reuters.
