Gingrich Eating Scozzafava (beans)

Gingrich, Gore and ClintonWhat the hell is Newt Gingrich thinking? For one who decided to either allow his persona to demonstrate what conservative values are or parlayed that perception to be used for political advantage another decision by the former Speaker of the House and focal point of the once proud and subsequently abandoned ‘contract with America’ has produced another obvious contradiction.

He supports Scazzafava (beans) for the NY (23)???

Gingrich is apparently willing to overlook Scozzafava’s support for same-sex marriage and abortion rights.

“The Republican Revolution in 1994 started very much like what we see today,” Gingrich said in his statement. “Like then, our country is reeling from misguided liberal policies, high taxes and out-of-control spending. This special election in New York’s 23rd Congressional District could be the first election of the new Republican Revolution, but we need the momentum to get it started.”

That is simply a politically motivated assessment. If you support a candidate based on a belief that they have the best chance to win while ignoring their rejection of conservative and traditional American values the culture of corruption is what you endorse. An absolutely appalling decision by someone whom this blog has always viewed as suspect although few if any posts have expressed that position. Sometimes it is reasonable to withhold comment until more evidence is gathered. The apparent revelation of the Gingrich departure from conservative principle demands notice and commentary.as well as strong support for a candidate previously analyzed as a wild card based on lack of relevant data.

At this point supporting a currently unknown quantity like Mr Hoffman is an easy decision. Scozzafava’s candidacy is also reported to have triggered a deep divide among House Republicans, with some of the most conservative members refusing to support her campaign. And with good reason ‘the most conservative members’ distance themselves from such an alliance.

The most prominent GOP endorser of radical leftist NY-23 congressional candidate Dede Scozzafava is openly musing about running for president in 2012.
No, thanks:

Check the link above to support this blog’s position that Newt Gingrich has left the conservative reservation on this and possibly other issues.

Support and advance conservative principles or withdraw from the GOP. That is this blog’s recommendation for politicians who are registered Republicans.

Newt will run for President again too. The left will try to ram him down our throats. He’s lost his mind.

Listening to Levin this evening (whom I respect) a comment was made that I can only recount from memory and it causes me some trouble.

Teddy Roosevelt did not succeed in a third party bid and no one else has either. Is that reason enough to abandon that idea and continue to cave to the failures of the two party system?

Newt was once considered a champion of conservative principles. Does that notion still apply given his support of Scazzafava(beans)?

A third party will simply split the vote and the Democrats will win. Newt WAS a strong conservative, not so any more. I would never vote for him. He’s worse than McCain.

We must take each election and look at it separately. If the republican is a RINO, then we must vote for the candidate that is most like what we stand for. It may take a long time to weed out the RINOs. It won’t be easy and it won’t be quick. I think with the NY-23 we are sending a strong message.

Obviously Perot’s run in 1992 is the only relevant experiment in third party efforts at least nationally. Polls indicated 39% for Perot before the Howard Dean style meltdown as well as other unfortunate choices made by the campaign. A final tally of about 19% and zero electoral votes supports the notion third party candidates cannot win.

Yet I cannot help but wonder if the central reason for advancing the argument against third party efforts is not simply the preferred response from those who are satisfied with the two party system.

If the original 39% figure was even close to reality there is reason to believe that lead would have grown rather than be cut in half due in large part to several serious gaffes as the final results show.

Third party candidates cannot win. I’m not convinced.

    Reason enough to oppose Scozzafava.

On July 22, 2009, Scozzafava was chosen by the eleven Republican Party county chairs located in the 23rd Congressional district to be the Republican nominee for the special election to fill the seat in the United States Congress vacated by John M. McHugh, who resigned in September 2009[6] to become Secretary of the Army.[3]

Conservatives have criticized Scozzafava for accepting the endorsement of the Working Families Party in her earlier assembly campaigns, noting the close ties between that party and liberal activist group ACORN.[7] She has received endorsements from Newt Gingrich,[8] Congressman Peter T King,[8] the National Rifle Association (NRA),[8] the Log Cabin Republicans,[8] and the New York State United Teachers (NYSUT), the largest labor union in New York State,[9] as well as an unsolicited endorsement from liberal activist Markos Moulitsas, founder and publisher of the Daily Kos blog.[10]

@ Stanford, just found your trackback. Thank you!

I hope this is the start of something big. If we follow the newtered method, we’ll never have a conservative congress. I understand that getting congress back is imperative, but not with a Scozzafava. I’d rather wait it out than show the world our leaders would support this liberal democrat.

That tie to WFP and ACORN wasn’t enough for Gingrich. He’s trying to change the subject by debating Howard Dean. Normally, I would think that’s worth mentioning, but now I’d rather talk about Gingrich/Scozzafava.

    BTW - great title!

Limbaugh was doing his best this week to convince someone this is the way its done with references to Reagan, etc., etc. Sorry Rush, I’m not buying it. Maybe this is how the GOP does it. But people with integrity stand on principle. How often have I heard similar expressions from Republican politicians? Well then, put up for shutup.

You have to stand on principle all the time. Not just when it’s convenient.

Standing on principle all the time builds reputation, trust and proof you actually mean it. Time for the GOP to stand up.
