Hillary Rodham Clinton FactCheck

While Hillary Rodham Clinton likes to claim a lifetime of supporting health care including claims of her direct involvement in the process, there is not much evidence to support those claims. Most of it is vague and ambiguous at best. A post at Blog @ MoreWhat.com this past summer highlighted HRC’s press releases on health care and the repeated use of suggestions of her involvement with health care legislation without specifics. Phrases like ‘ legislation I helped write’ or legislation ‘ I fought to pass’ or ‘introduced’. On the introduction of legislation, for example, HRC like several others was listed as a co-sponsor. It seems reasonable that the author of the legislation would be the sponsor and the person to get credit for introducing it. HRC was careful not to specifically state she was the author or the person who introduced it or the fact that much legislation was introduced before she was in the Senate.
So it is satisfying to see an AP report questioning the exact same story with a ‘fact-check’ item. Here is an excerpt:
With his wife’s backing, President Clinton announced a plan to expand health coverage to as many as 5 million children in his 1997 State of the Union address.Kennedy, meanwhile, introduced legislation based on a Massachusetts model with Utah Sen. Orrin Hatch as the lead Republican co-sponsor. The bill called for $20 billion in grants to states, paid for in part by raising the federal tax on cigarettes.
While example above pertains more to children’s health care and the current SCHIPS disagreements, there are many examples of Hillary Rodham Clinton taking credit she probably does not deserve. If asked, considering how her speeches and press releases are carefully constructed, she would have an out to deny ever saying explicitly that she is the one who carried the torch. Not unlike all the credit given to her husband for balanced budgets and a surplus. You will notice the spending above that failed due to the balanced budget agreement between GOP Congressional leaders and the Clinton White House.
It is not worth suffering the annoyance from HRC’s fans to make any points here about this issue and Hillary Rodham Clinton’s suitability for President. While the Democratic nomination is not set in stone quite yet, minus a collosal campaign blunder larger than other issues previously raised, she is all but nominated. Maybe it is simply a case of saying what your base wants to hear and wants to believe. Could they be so desperate to maintain far left liberal attitudes to accept a candidate so focused on appearing centrist as her strategist claims she must?

She is Bill without the charisma. He always struck me as a BSer; always ready to tell you whatever he thought the majority of folks wanted to hear. That was one of the main qualities of his that led me to vote against him for governor of Arkansas. (After 17 years, I still can’t bring myself to say that I voted *for* Sheffield Nelson for governor. LOL)

Gotta do whacha gotta do. Isn’t that always the way it is. Left to choose between the lesser of two evils or the choices just simply do not inspire.
