This is actually part of the reason why early members were mobbed and killed so frequently. While there was a so called “priesthood ban” which seems to have been based mostly on concerns because of misinterpretations of biblical passages, they NEVER disallowed African Americans membership in the church. If Romney needs to answer thological questions about why his church had a “priesthood ban” then shouldn’t other politicians have to answer for the large number of members of their church that held slaves, shouldn’t they have to answer for those members who fought against equal rights. Shouldn’t they have to answer as to why they segregated their congregations (which the LDS never did)?
