NYT Fish Wrap Account of Palin’s Speech
The fish wrap NYT knows only one way to publish. Present the news of the day in your own image and likeness. No wonder they identify with the Messiah from the Democratic party. Another fine example of bait and switch with title and story. The title associated with the excerpt below is ‘Palin Assails Critics and Electrifies Party’ which suggests something positive for a competitor in a political campaign. What’s with the redefine description? How about the NYT and remainder of the MSM has done their best to redefine Sarah Palin which tasked her with setting the record straight.
And no, the convention was not ‘consumed by questions of whether she was up to the job.’ Few speakers have been awaited by crowds with as much anticipation as Sarah Palin. Her resume’ speaks for itself yet media outlets like the NYT were not content with focusing on the issues. Instead, as mentined on this blog about a SF Chronicle piece, Obama left it up to the left leaning MSM and other Democratic allies to attempt a distortion of Sarah Palin. One of the few MSM accounts to agree with the sentiment on this blog. That is not to say there is no obligation to scrutinize a candidate. Due diligence requires it. But confine your scrutiny to politics and leave the family part out of it. Oh, that’s right, too late for that now isn’t it? Thanks to the likes of the NYT and other members of the MSM. One exception to that rule being the aforementioned piece from the SF Chronicle and Carolyn Lochhead.
BTW, NYT, wuz up wit dat ‘rocky start’ quip? And worse yet, the NYT provides readers with another lump of misinformation. While describing Palin’s mention of Obama praising small town residents while in front of them but dissing the same folks in other venues, the NYT states ‘comments he (Obama) made in California about bitter rural voters who cling to guns and religion.’ It would have been better if the NYT enclosed the phrase in quotes if that is actually what Obama said rather than let it appear the NYT views that as truth. It can leave a reader with the wrong impression which in the case of the NYT is exactly what they want. Lead the reader down the wrong path if you can but word the piece so you can deny it later.
Another favorite practice of the NYT and remainder of the MSM is demonstrated by their description of reaction to the Palin selection as GOP VP nominee. How have you determined ‘who stunned the political world’ is an accurate description. It implies everyone in the ‘political world’ was stunned. That is simply not the case. Superlatives have a nasty habit of distorting the facts. And the NYT should be completely aware of how the choice of words and expressions can skew meaning and interpretation. Oh, they are. That’s the whole point. Present the story in a manner that persuades the reader much like the way a lawyer tries to convince a jury to agree with the case they present. That does not mean its necessarily true as the lawyer’s ethical responsibility is to provide the best legal representation to the client.
The NYT, in their divine wisdom determined what was notable about the RNC evening. ‘Ms. Palin’s speech was the big draw of a convention night notable for not a single mention from the stage of the unpopular president, George W. Bush,’ Just can’t stop yourself from expressing a partisan view and offer it as some soft of fact, can you NYT? Most people can understand that if the VP nominee is a scheduled speaker at a party convention on a particular night that the person is probably the main attraction or supposed to be the ‘big draw’. Perhaps her incredible speech and presentation should have been your ‘notable’ item. But oh no, gotta take a shot at the President. Must make at least one coy remark to try and diminish the performance of the GOP’s number two on the ticket. Does the Obama campaign pay you for your services?
The second page of the NYT fish wrap report would have been reviewed here but for the registration obligation to continue. Ya, like this blog is going to register to read fish wrap.
The reason for the many complaints of bias in the MSM on this blog as well as other places is due largely to this practice. Use words (just words, just speeches) to alter the reality and convince your audience that the story presented is authentic and true whether it is or not. Gee Wally, could the MSM be using their own media to support their own political agenda? Say it ain’t so.
