Romney Surges in Polls
With McCain’s restart of a previously mismanaged campaign and Giuliani’s declaration to stand firm on pro-choice as well as connections to the bad press of oxycontin maker Purdue Pharma, Mitt Romney has taken the opportunity to elevate his campaign in the New Harmpshire polls.
Romney facing problems head on was just beginning to court the religious right when Al Sharpton decided to try what he harassed Don Imus about; speaking badly. Sharpton’s remarks about Romney’s faith may have not won Romney any sympathy support but it couldn’t hurt his chances.
With the remainder of the GOP field not doing much, including Fred Thompson and Newt Gingrich, Romney has been stepping up efforts on the campaign trail and critics voices don’t seem to be having as much effect as before.

Lags Giuliani Despite Gains in New Hampshire

The former mayor has been ahead of Mr. Romney and Senator McCain of Arizona for months, but polls in the last two weeks have the former Massachusetts governor gaining or leading in New Hampshire, the site of the first primary, and in Michigan. Though Mr. Romney remains far behind Mr. Giuliani in national surveys, the bump in the Granite State is a sign his campaign may be catching on with Republican primary voters.

Romney is Top Republican in New Hampshire

32 per cent of likely GOP primary voters in the Granite State would support the former Massachusetts governor in the 2008 United States primary.
Former New York City mayor Rudy Giuliani is second with 23 per cent, followed by Arizona senator John McCain with 22 per cent, actor and former Tennessee senator Fred Thompson with 11 per cent, and former House of Representatives speaker Newt Gingrich with four per cent.
