Now there’s a ticket the Democratic party can be proud of….. Clinton/Dukakis. The messages are similar. The photos are similar.
Speaking recently to the New York Observer, Michael Dukakis, the Democrats’ 1988 standard-bearer, speculated that “some crazy guy will blow up a building with three weeks to go” before the elections, “and then we’ll be back in Bush-land again.”

And then there’s Hillary Rodham Clinton…….
WASHINGTON (CNN) — She says she is the Democrat best equipped to fight terrorists, but White House hopeful Sen. Hillary Clinton told New Hampshire voters Thursday that another attack on the United States would likely help Republican candidates at the polls.
Sen. Hillary Clinton said the Republicans would benefit politically if a terrorist attack occurred before the ‘08 vote.

Both are stating the obvious surely. Like it or hate it it’s hard to deny that the Republicans have not used 9/11 and all it implies as an election plank. Rudy’s playing it big for god’s sake. What’s changed I think is public attitudes. Distance, the Iraq fiasco and increasing scepticism about anything Republicans in general and this administration in particular say about Iraq and the war on terrorism has eroded it’s resonance. Perhaps the most amazing number I saw in a recent poll was that a comfortable majority of Americans said they would not believe Petraeus upcoming report whatever it said. Claims like this one, who the hell’s Duakakis, have zero impact on the mainstream. Why do people post stuff like this. That’s as much of a mystery as why the Republican party seems determined to go into 08 with the Iraq war as a major campaign issue. Two thirds of the country has decided it’s a fiasco so what electoral benefit there is in the GOP’s stance eludes me. Mr Matthews is obviously a true believer, well he’ll have to get used to the consequence of his belief when the lady in the above picture spends at least four years in the White House.
