Who’s Minding the Store?
Is it just me or is this story stupid on so many levels? Over at the Hill.com legislators are calling on the Bush Administration to report on the damage a spy has done to the United States. Okay, first, legislators have intel committees and meetings or other communications on the subject of national security. Second, the book was written by the senior investigator on counterintelligence. He says he wrote the book to bring public attention to the problem. And those legislators mentioned before occasionally have top secret clearance. The tasks involved usually dictate the work be done outside the public forum.
So the summary on stupid is how did a senior counterintelligence investigator spend five years investigating someone eventually arrested and then proceed to write a book about it? How do legislators claim they know nothing until a book is published (rhetorical question)? And how the hell can this be happening again?!?!?
